You might be reading this during the Hungry Ghost Festival, when people visit temples out of a healthy respect and fear of the unknown.

So you call Team Joey Yap, of course. The crew organised this excursion to Choo Sing Tong Temple on Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur recently, the second destination on the first of the two-day Feng Shui Discovery Malaysia expedition.

As with the first destination, the entourage departed at a suitable time towards a well-aligned direction as indicated by the Qi Men chart. (We’ll write about it soon!)

Are temples with better Feng Shui in better spirits than others? The happy Feng Shui adventurers had the chance to ask their expert facilitator Joe Boey what landforms good temples are made of. 

Briefly, temples are spaces that have been energised by consecration, and so a location where natural forces align will support this process by supplying the type and intensity of energy within and around the temple grounds. 

The rituals frequently thought of as mere superstition are not meant to comfort the fearful, though they may have such a psychological effect.

Their primary purpose is to ensure the right things are consistently done in the correct way to keep the energy of the space intact for the benefit of visitors. This is a must-do, not a ‘nice to have’, hence it’s done religiously.

So, what are good temples made of? Things you can, and can’t yet see, as the drone footage shows. The general and not just the local environment provides context and the bigger picture, so you need to cast your eye high, far and wide.

Look closer and you’ll notice the road networks and the river, their possible effects, and a constructed canal next to the temple that influences the flow of Qi from the river to where the temple’s Qi mouth is located.
